Jowar pongal

About This Recipe

Jowar Pongal – A Wholesome Millet Twist to a South Indian Classic

Jowar Pongal is a nourishing, millet-based version of the traditional South Indian Pongal, prepared using jowar (sorghum) instead of rice. Light, soothing, and rich in natural fiber, this dish is perfect for those seeking a healthier alternative without compromising on authentic flavor.

Made by slow-cooking jowar grits with moong dal, gently tempered with ghee, cumin, black pepper, ginger, and curry leaves, Jowar Pongal offers a comforting aroma and creamy texture. Jowar’s naturally low glycemic index makes it an excellent choice for diabetics, weight-watchers, and anyone transitioning to millet-based meals.
